The Minnesota Council for the Gifted and Talented (MCGT) is a state-wide non-profit support and advocacy organization of parents, educators, and other professionals who live or work with gifted children and are interested in their education and well-being.


Join us for our annual mini-conference, a half-day of intense learning, along with an opportunity to talk to other parents, educators, professionals and long-time advocates for gifted children.


When: April 9th, 2016, 9am to 12pm
Where: Edina Community Center, 3rd floor ~ 5701 Normandale Road, Edina, MN 55424. Registration outside of MCGT office, suite 315
Who: All those interested in the topic of giftedness – educators, parents, and other caregivers and professionals welcome!
What: 3 experts will present on topics of vital interest to those who know and care about gifted children:


Mary Wandrei, Ph.D., psychologist, will present on Characteristics of Gifted Children. Learn about behaviors and characteristics that make parents and educators worry or wonder, and find out why they may be ‘normal’ in the gifted context. Includes a brief overview of when and why to get a child tested for ability or achievement.


Andrea Johnson, Ph.D., psychologist, will present Traveling the Road of Emotional Complexities of Gifted Kids; Learn how gifted traits can be a mirage for mental health issues and how to navigate the difference, understand the risks and benefits of gifted for mental health, plus how parents can avoid potholes and pave the road to resilience.


Loran Meccia, M.Ed., Ed.S., educational consultant and gifted child advocate, will speak on Advocacy in the School: Creating Collaborative Teams. Dr. Meccia offers tried and true advice on academic strategies, and finding the best educational placement for a child who does not fit a traditional classroom setting.
