Engaging GT Students in Learning: Using knowledge of human development to shape practical school applications
This session includes an integration of understanding human development and the gifted learner to create practical strategies for engaging students in learning. Contemporary mind-body knowledge and the understanding of non-negotiables that allow students to learn help provide a framework for educators and parents to increase learner engagement. Current brain science knowledge supports humans as emotional beings who think, highlighting the important role emotion plays in learning. In this session, learn strength-based and positive psychology strategies to enhance learning and support gifted learners who are underperforming in school.
Presenter: Dr. Lin Lim, Ph.D. is the Dean of Students at Bridges Graduate School of Cognitive Diversity in Education (BGS). Her parenting journey with her two profoundly gifted children, one twice-exceptional, and the other radically accelerated drives her to create better understanding, communication, and nurturance for such children between all stakeholders. She is a founding board member of the non-profit GiftedEducationFamilyNetwork.org, a board member and current president of SENG (Sengifted.org), and founder of the non-profit QuarkCollaboration.org.
This educational experience is a collaboration of the Minnesota Department of Education, Minnesota Council for the Gifted & Talented, and the Minnesota Educators for the Gifted & Talented
